The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is mandatory for all family members of active duty service members who meet the following criteria: Family member has a potentially life threatening condition, chronic medical condition or physical disability. Family member has asthma or reactive airway disease (RAD). Family member has had chronic/multiple episodes of outpatient mental health treatment in the past 5 years, or inpatient mental health services within the past 5 years. Family member has ADD/ADHD requiring management by a pediatrician, mental health provider or counselor. Family member has a condition requiring intensive follow-up support (e.g., high risk newborns, cancer within past 5 years). Special education services as indicated by an IFSP or IEP. Health care providers are directed to refer for enrollment as soon as medical diagnosis is made.
