- OVERALL COMMITTEE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
- Consider staffing requirements to meet schools
growing needs. (Community Strategic Plan Goals #2&3)
- Research and respond to all issues brought to SAC
(CSP Goal #4)
- MEASURES OF SUCCESS IN ACHIEVING GOALS AND
OBJECTIVES:
By holding monthly meetings,
the PES SAC was able to address issues and concerns brought forward by
parents, teachers, and school administrators in a timely fashion. Most
matters considered by SAC were addressed and recommendations were made
within 30 days.
- MATTERS ADDRESSED AND OUTCOMES:
- Student Arrival Procedures A parent new
to the community expressed concern with current student arrival
procedures, i.e. waiting in line at school front entrance. SAC
thoroughly discussed the current procedure and concluded it is the
safest and most efficient alternative. Chairman sent parent a written
reply detailing attributes of current procedure. The next issue of the
school newsletter reminded all parents of proper arrival procedures and
advised against arriving to school too early.
- Notification of Student Absence A parent
expressed her desire to be called by school secretary when her child is
absent. SAC discussed the current policy as stated in the
Parent/Student Handbook. Coincidentally, at the same SAC meeting,
school principal presented a policy statement from DoDEA to be included
in updated handbooks requiring parents to call the school every time a
student is absent. Chairman wrote parent a letter detailing handbook
update and DoDEA policy.
- Scholar Recognition A parent suggested
PES recognize students achieving all As, in addition to the current
recognition of students achieving 3.0 and above. SAC discussed the
suggestion and voted to make the recommendation in writing to the
principal. The principal agreed to add a new tier to the current Honor
Roll and began recognizing students in the 3rd quarter.
Chairman wrote parent to share details of new Honor Roll and to thank
her for promoting academic excellence at PES.
- Parental Requests for Class Assignment
Principal presented a concern from the faculty involving a letter to
parents stating the steps necessary to request a specific class
assignment. SAC formed a committee to recommend revisions to the
letter/policy. Principal utilized SAC recommendations in revising her
letter to parents.
- Inclement Weather Notification SAC
members vocalized concerns the 6th ASG was not notifying the
community of delayed school openings in a timely manner. This matter
was referred to IAC.
- Contracted Snow Removal SAC discussed
both teacher and parent concerns involving snow removal from blacktop
areas/fire evacuation areas. These areas are not covered by the current
snow removal contract. The issue was sent to IAC.
- Availability of Soap/Paper Towels in Classrooms
SAC discussed both parent and teacher issue involving soap and paper
towels in classrooms. These supplies are not included in the current
contract. SAC wants both paper towel and soap dispensers in classrooms
maintained. This issue was forwarded to IAC.
- Ramstein Elementary Endorsement Request for
Kindergarten Class Size Reduction SAC thoroughly discussed this
issue and decided not to endorse the initiative.
- Supply List Principal presented new DoDDS-Europe
approved list of supplies parents are expected to supply. Many items
normally requested were absent from the list. SAC felt strongly these
omissions would affect both the quality of education and student
health. Chairman drafted letter to DSO requesting reconsideration of
issue and individual school flexibility. Revised supply guidelines were
issued that included many of the previously omitted items.
- MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE COMMITTEE: The
Patch Elementary School Advisory Committee held nine (9) monthly meetings
during this school year. Each meeting was well attended and provided an
open forum for communication between parents, teachers, and administrators
alike. All issues, concerns, and suggestions brought forward received
thorough discussion and timely responses. Elections for SY 2005-2006 have
been completed and new committee members will begin their terms at the
September 2005 meeting.
